Say Why It Happened
Students take the cause pairs they labelled in EC-01, in the same case, and move through controlled → guided → free practice with because and so, checking every sentence against a punctuation card.
Purpose
Teachers: once students can tell cause pairs from sequence and coincidence, they need two sentence shapes to say why something happened without misusing because. The lesson stays on the SAME case students already read in EC-01, so the reading load is zero and all the new load is on the sentence. It moves through controlled practice (one connector at a time with a punctuation card), guided practice (one teacher-modelled pair written both ways), and free practice (students write two verified pairs both ways). Since, therefore, as a result and due to are modelled only as an optional Level 3–4 stretch.
Grammar target
Write a cause–effect sentence for a confirmed cause pair three ways: '___ because ___.', '___, so ___.' and '___ because of ___.' — with correct clause order, the right punctuation, and no overclaiming. (since / therefore / as a result / due to are an optional Level 3–4 stretch only.)
Essential question
How do I say why it happened — with because and with so — without over-claiming what the case shows?
Objective
Students can produce grammatically accurate cause–effect sentences with because and so, putting the cause after because, the effect after so, and the comma before so.
